I've just purchased "Bisclavret" and haven't started reading as yet, but I wanted to say what a delightful surprise it was to have it show up on my Amazon notifications. Love the basis of the plot, and I'm now going to go plunge into it.
BTW, hoping all is well with you; it's rare to have you radio silence for so long, although I'm sure it reflects the demands of academia and pending holidays. Be well!

I have been basically smothered under grading and deadlines, both academic and creative! It has been awful! (I haven't even properly promoted my poor Bisclavret. Time, where are you...) I've been doing conference-paper and area chair things for this weekend's academic conference, which also meant travel...and then we had all the paper proposals come in for the Star Trek book...and then my deadline for the third Leather & Tea story (which is longer than the first two: 20k) was today, for getting it in to JMS to be part of the BDSM anthology bundle. And it WAS NOT BEHAVING, which is my fault, because I know perfectly well that writing actual Plot is not my strength, and then I tried to give it a Plot (look, Simon's brother needs help! which requires Ben's retired spy skills!), and then basically they ended up using the Power of Compassion to solve the problem anyway, and also having a lot of kinky comfort sex. So I was still writing that up until yesterday evening, and I'm actually sort of...99% happy with the draft I sent in. I'm happy with the scenes and the characters and such, but I didn't have time to do a final pass and add more setting and texture and description and such, which I'll try to do during editing. *sigh*

Plus the pre-order link for the Terry Pratchett book went live, in a sort of baffling way that had me and my co-editor emailing each other saying, "did you approve this cover art? ...no, did YOU? ...I mean it's fine, it's actually quite good, but...nope, they never showed it to us at all before going with it! good thing we like it!" So that was fun. (But also, yay, it's a book! that people can order! which we're excited about!)

I am also excited about Bisclavret! My cuddly werewolf and his lonely king... It's an interesting story of mine, because the first draft is probably about six years old, and I think you can tell that my writing style's evolved - but then I was also playing with style, to some extent. I hardly ever do first person, much less something that's basically one giant flashback, but I was sort of aiming for the fairytale/medieval lai style, with maybe a little bit of Jennifer Roberson's Sword-Dancer narrator's first-person style too. I love that people're getting to read this one; I wrote it because I couldn't not, because when I read the 12th-century version I immediately knew it was a romance, and I knew who they were, and how they fit together... (There are also several medieval romance nerd-jokes in the titles and authors of Andreas's books. I once wrote a grad-school paper on Thomas Chestre, for one thing...)

All the things, essentially, all at once! It should calm down after this weekend though...and yay for friends and making me smile! Thank you, my dear! *all the hugs, from this hotel room in San Diego*

Bisclavret and sooo many demands!

[Just, "Fine but busy." would work..:-) ]It sounds hectic, I'm so glad things will calm down for you. I've finished Bisclavret, and adore it. I love the narrator's voice; your werewolf communicates such peacefulness, even while reflecting on his own trauma. And the language is engrossing; there's a sense in the rhythm and word choice of someone accustomed to very formal speech, who is being intimately informal. It's lovely, and a beautiful way to relate this love story, encompassed with magic. The world-building is wonderful; the sense of magic so pervasive in society that it's treated with a pragmatic matter-of-factness. And the wonderful description of the difference in perception, from wolf to man; vivid and colorful as an illustrated missal.. Please don't feel you have to reply to this! Would much rather think of you taking time to breathe.. Hoping you're having a wonderful weekend.
