Happy Character Bleed Box Set Release Day! Yep,the Character Bleed box set - containing the original three novels, and a new author’s note and updated cover art - is out now, June 10, from JMS Books! Ebook first, paperback coming soon - and yes, it’ll be massive! *laughs* It's 332,890 words! Good heavens, as Colby would say.

This is closer to the way I originally wrote it, as one giant novel - I broke it into a trilogy to, y'know, make it publishable! But now we're doing it as one big story! This volume includes the short stories that came with each book of the trilogy - the short stories that were published separately will get collected into a second volume, coming soon! (And there might be a new one in there...I've been wanting to do the Leather & Tea crossover story, purely for fun, just because I want to. This is a good excuse. And it's possible that Colby and Ben, of all people, have met before...)

I love these characters and this world so much - it's the most words (and ideas!) I've ever written, and I'm so grateful and so lucky to have you all sharing this journey - tall ships, bread puns, and tender falling in love - with me. I loaf you. (Couldn't resist.)

This box set is on sale over at JMS for only $10.39 during release week - after that it'll go up to $12.99! (This is the ebook - paperback coming soon.) Come order yours at JMS now! And here's the cover! (I believe there's not a separate Amazon link - or if there is I can't find it - because Amazon already lets you buy all three books as a bundle over here. That doesn't get you the new cover or Author's Note though!)

First up, a holiday cat pic! Here Miss Merlyn is being mesmerized by our fire. Most of the year it’s too hot to have a fire, and she’s not very bright (we love her!), so it’s new and amazing every year…

Second, here’s the cover and the list of stories for this year’s JMS Books Top Ten anthology – the bestselling short stories of the year, including my own “The Snails of Dun Nas”! And you might recognize some other familiar names, like my co-author K.S. Murphy, or some Read Around the Rainbow and Naked Gardening Day collection friends like Nell Iris, Amy Spector, Ofelia Grand, Ellie Thomas, and Holly Day…

Here’s the story list: Found in the Storm by Sarah Hadley Brook, The Wingman by Holly Day, The Ruby Tooth by Ofelia Gränd, Secrets on a Train by Nell Iris, Hatch by Hannah Morse, Trust with Glittering Eyes by K.S. Murphy, The Snails of Dun Nas by K.L. Noone, How to Cheat at Dirty Santa by Amy Spector, The Thrill of the Chase by Ellie Thomas, and Twelve Desserts by Tinnean.

It’s release day for “In Character,” my final (sort of) Jason/Colby story! (It’s sort of because they’re not going anywhere – we’ll see them in Leo’s novel! And you never know. But it’s the last one I had planned…)

“In Character” is really more a collection of six scenes, in which Jason and Colby…well…get to be in character, from movie sets to some role-play at home. Essentially, it was my excuse to write a John Kill movie scene, and a Nic Skye scene, and that scene in which Jason and Colby have some, er, fun with Jason’s fake magic Santa hat prop from Saint Nick Steel

You can find it at Amazon hereor at JMS Books here!

Some trivia:

1) Nic Skye’s real last name – Shelley – is a nod to Pete Shelley of Buzzcocks fame (one of my fav bands)

2) the John Kill chapter was the first chapter I wrote, and the magicians/fantasy quest chapter was the last!

3) Jason and Colby are definitely watching Our Flag Means Death, lightly disguised, in chapter one

4) there were originally going to be twelve chapters, but I very quickly realized that was too ambitious! One unwritten chapter: Colby and Jason doing voice work for that animated princes-falling-in-love-while-in-disguise movie…

5) I realized while finishing up that we’ve seen Colby’s birthday – in “Cinnamon and Strawberries” – but not Jason’s, yet! Hmm…I do have some thoughts about Jason’s upcoming 40th… *laughs*

...want to see a pretty cover? Here's the cover for "In Character," my final (sort of) Jason/Colby story! (It's sort of because they're not going anywhere - we'll see them in Leo's novel! And you never know. But it's the last one I had planned...)

Things've been busy and I've been forgetting to do these! For anyone on FB,Rainbow Snippets is a Facebook group for LGBTQ+ authors, readers, and bloggers to gather once a week and share six sentences from a work of fiction–a WIP or a finished work or even a 6-sentence book recommendation.

(Because I'm me, it's never just six sentences...)

This week, I've got something a bit special...

...way back when (okay, 2018), A Demon for Midwinter was my first-ever published novel! (Not the first novel I finished writing - that was Prophecy - but there were some delays with that appearing...) And now...well, next month, March 12...several bonus stories and a lot of love later, we're bringing that era to an end.

Because JMS Books is putting out the full complete Demon box set, with new cover art, and the novel, novellas, and bonus shorts all in one place.

And...there'll be one brand-new bonus short in there, just for you. (Well, okay, we're also releasing it separately, for 99 cents, so that no one who's already bought everything feels forced to buy the set again!

It's called "A Demon's Very Good Morning," and it's essentially 3k of Kris and Justin on a lazy domestic morning, being in love. It's also Justin POV, because, well, we needed more of that (and the way he thinks about Kris is a delight).

Here's the beginning...

#

Justin Moore was not a morning demon.

He never had been, and he did not particularly want to be now. He pushed himself up on an elbow, yawning. The silky dark blue tumble of their sheets made a snail-shell around him; he curled back under them, a huddle of warmth lit by his own fiery hair, and thought about what had awakened him, and why.

Kris wasn’t in the bed, and that wasn’t a surprise. Justin tucked one hand under his cheek, and let lazy senses—half human, half not—stretch out and soak up the low purr and hum of Kris’s emotions. Kris Starr was a lusciously strong empath, and a better projector than receiver; it’d been one reason Starrlight had always had such fabulous stadium-filling live rock shows. Kris could drink in the passion, the excitement, the screams, the cheers, and give it all back a hundredfold.

Kris Starr, or rather Christopher Thompson, behind the decades of glitter and spandex and hair, was the very human morning person Justin wasn’t. And, right now, was thinking about something, with hushed and complicated feelings in Justin’s head.

Justin yawned again—eight in the morning was not an hour at which demons should be expected to awaken, especially when they’d been up late working on their second novel, plus having fantastic sex with a rock god husband—and unearthed a leg, and another, and then got up and fumbled his way into vivid purple pajama pants and a loose grey shirt, because the air was cold, and wrapped himself up in the rainbow-striped knit blanket from the end of the bed. And then he wandered out to their living room.

Early June light bloomed palely from the big picture windows, up on their penthouse floor. New York City sprawled out below in spires and glitter, steel and brick and dreams. Home, Justin thought, as he always thought; and he meant the city, and the penthouse, and the man he loved, who looked up and said, “Oh, gods, sorry, didn’t mean to wake you, love!” with genuine dismayed apology.

“I want to be awake if you are.” Justin came across the room, tripped over the edge of his blanket, flopped into an ungraceful heap of horns and lightly pointed claws and long limbs next to Kris on the couch. “Talk to me.”

I've been a bit busy and forgot to update over here, but - Magician won the Queer Indie Book Award for Best Fantasy! That's pretty awesome, is what that is - thank you all for loving my magician and his prince. It means a lot, especially for this one, which lived in my head for a decade before I could write it. So, thank you!

So today is also a short story release day! As mentioned in the previous post, it is time for “December with Peppermint,” which is all about handmade decorations, terrible puns about mint, and definitely no one making a holiday-themed sex tape, no matter what Finn’s agent suggests!

“December with Peppermint” is a short little holiday follow-up for Finn and Wes from “October by Candlelight,” my autumn-themed moving-in-together story—here, they’re getting ready for their first Christmas in their home together! Which comes with families wanting to visit, and Finn wanting to decorate everything in sight, and Wes needing to grade papers…and, on top of that, Finn’s agent worrying that he’s not visible enough, not memorable enough, not someone casting directors think of, these days…in need of something drastic, perhaps, to get people talking. (The sex tape suggestion isn’t entirely serious. Though…if Finn and Finn’s boyfriend might be willing to go along with it…) (Wes: “Not in this or any other universe, as much as I love you.”)

And look at the adorable cover! You can get it at Amazon here, or at JMS Books here, or all the places you like to buy books!

And...finally...the big news!

So... Frost & Raine, my little paranormal m/m romance novella about a Cupid & his Frost spirit, just won the 2020-2021 Rainbow Award for Bisexual Fantasy & Paranormal Romance - and was a Runner-Up in overall Best Bisexual Book! The other two I submitted - Seaworthy (Character Bleed book one) & Cadence and the Pearl - also received Honorable Mentions! So that was a very, very neat thing to find yesterday, when I finished teaching!

luninosity: (cookie)
It's a release day! "October by Candlelight," my autumn-themed story, is out from JMS today, October 20!

"October by Candlelight" is just under 12,000 words (literally - it had to be <12k, and mine's...11,988 words...not counting the author's note... *laughs*) of soft autumn-themed m/m (gay and bisexual main characters) romance, all about moving in together (and learning how to do that), and discussions about fall decorations, and pumpkin-spice cinnamon rolls!

This story was written for the JMS Books Trick or Treat theme this year, and it's very much a treat, I think - all soft and warm, low angst, maybe a bit of emotional hurt/comfort, but not even really much hurt, just something they need to talk about. And it's full of candles and autumn decorations and tidbits about medieval history research and tender romantic sex scenes and a whole lot of love and wanting the other person to be happy.

And did I mention the pumpkin-spice cinnamon rolls?

This story did end up somewhere among my favorite things I've written, honestly - it just flowed so well, and I knew Wes and Finn as soon as I started writing them, and I knew what the next scenes were, and before I knew it I'd written so many words... And of course autumn is my favorite season, too!

In my head, by the way, this story exists in the same universe as my Character Bleed trilogy, though it doesn't explicitly tie in anywhere and it won't matter if you've not read those! But Wes and Finn have absolutely gone on a date to see Jason and Colby in Steadfast, and Jason and Colby would probably recognize Finn's name, less from the teen idol days and more from the more recent character work and indie films, though they've never worked together, for reasons of timing of their careers, mostly. I like to think they'd all get along.

It's release day! Actually release evening, because Awesome Husband and I spent the day at a pumpkin patch and sunflower garden, which I've decided is an excellent way to celebrate autumn and a new release!

So...The Featherbed Puzzle is out today! Rain, chocolate pastries, jigsaw puzzles, far too many featherbeds, and an m/m retelling of "The Princess & the Pea"!

Also this one has one of my favorite covers ever, for one of my stories. I love it – it matches the mood and the theme so effortlessly.

So....the story selections for this year's Queer Sci Fi Anthology were posted today, and I'm thrilled to finally be able to tell you that my flash fiction short "Openings" is among them! (We've known for a little while, but they asked us not to say anything until the official announcement. But now we can!)

The theme for this year's anthology is "Ink," and a 300-word maximum is...well, it was a challenge! (And we all know about me and writing short things...) "Openings" was actually my second attempt - I'd started something else, got to 800 words, realized it'd never be short enough, flailed around a bit, and came up with a different story - and now it's been accepted, so I'm thrilled! "Openings" is, more or less, about a bibliomancer and a librarian, and very bashful confessions of feelings via notes and paper and ink and magic, and I love so many of my lines, especially when they talk to each other and both say and fail to say all the emotions they're feeling...

Over the next few weeks, the QSF team will also be announcing the anthology awards - three top winners, an honorable mention, and their judge’s picks. And then the anthology overall will be published August 10, and you can read all the fabulous stories!

Here's the link to the announcement with the full list of selected authors - you might notice some familiar names of friends (K.S. Murphy! Addison Albright!) as well as some brand-new exciting names! I'm looking forward to reading them all, and so happy to be included!

Last day for voting for the Readers’ Choice Awards in the Good Sex Awards! If you like extended metaphors about tea, bad bread puns, and the things I write, come vote for Seaworthy in the Sexiest Consent category? 💜

***

I’m a Good Sex Awards Finalist! In the “Sexiest Consent” category! Specifically, for THAT scene in Seaworthy, the first Character Bleed book. (You know the one. The one I’ve described to people as “the best sex scene I’ve ever written in which no one physically touches anyone else” and also “THE TEA IS A METAPHOR”.) The overall winners will be chosen by the judges, but you can also vote – there’s a Reader’s Choice award!

So…er…go and vote for me and Jason and Colby, if you would like, by the end of June 20? I will be very happy and also my characters will be happy and probably ramble a lot about tea & baked goods! Here’s the link: https://goodsexawards.com/finalists/

So, um. Just was reminded by a friend to check the Good Sex Awards Finalists List, and, er...

...OH MY GOODNESS YES THERE I AM. *flails a lot*

Specifically, among the finalists for "Sexiest Consent," for THAT scene in the first Character Bleed book. (You know the one. The one I've described to people as "the best sex scene I've ever written in which no one physically touches anyone else" and also "THE VERY MUSCULAR TEA IS A METAPHOR".)

The overall winners will be chosen by the judges, but you can also vote - there's a Reader's Choice award in each category! So...er...go and vote for me and Jason and Colby, if you would like, by June 20? I will be very happy and also Jason and Colby will be happy and probably ramble a lot about tea or baked goods or how much they love each other. ❤ ❤ ❤

(
I'm so glad it's that scene. Authors or their publishers could submit up to two, and I put the other one in the LGBTQI category, but this one was so much about consent, and also it was one of the first scenes I ever wrote for that story, sort of the core of these characters, so I'm just thrilled!)

luninosity: (Default)
It's release day! "Celebrations," the next Character Bleed short story (never-before-seen - not on AO3!), is out today!

See Jason and Colby being Giant Nerds at a convention! With footage from a new Very Gay fantasy film! Plus some hurt/comfort (Colby's still not great with crowds, or unexpected hugs from fans), loyal friends, cinnamon coffee, and Jason providing a very nice massage!

Buy at Amazon here, or at JMS Books here!
